Scotland Through Her Country Dances
[B 1236]

Scotland Through Her Country Dances
by George S. Emerson

Here is Scottish history and Scottish folklore as seen through a tapestry of her country dances and the tunes and the events that have inspired them.

The first part of the book presents a history of the Scottish Country Dance in what the late Hugh Foss described as the most concise and lucid account of the subject he had read; as dissertation on the music for Scottish Country Dancing and on such related topics as Highland dress and the Tartan.

The second, and major portion of the book, deals with the meaning and significance of, or story behind, the tides of most of the Scottish Country Dances in the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society's collection. This involves much of the history, social as well as political, folklore and poetry of Scotland.
